Acción Boricua is the Puerto Rican cultural group at Columbia and is a recognized student group under the Activities Board at Columbia. It was founded to foster awareness, promotion, and education of Puerto Rican culture, history, and current situations while simultaneously providing a support group for Latino/a issues at Columbia University in general and to collaborate with other non-Latino/a groups inside and outside the Columbia gates. The group takes its name from the native Taino word for the island of Puerto Rico, Boriken.
