How to make an appointment at the Writing Center
The Writing Center, located in 301 Philosophy, provides great writing support to the Columbia community. The center gives 45 minute one-on-one workshops, in which consultants offer feedback and strategies to help students improve at every stage of writing, from brainstorming to final drafts.The Writing Center does not provide services for students at Barnard, Teacher's College, or the School of Social Work unless their course is offered though other Columbia departments.
How to make an appointment
Columbia students may add money onto their accounts through Columbia Student Services Online (SSOL)
- Navigate to The Writing Center's homepage .
- Click on "Click Here to Make an Appointment."
- If this is your first time, you have to register. The option to do this is above the sign in area. After registering, sign into the scheduler.
- Scroll to find an available time and consultant. This is indicated by a white box. The red and blue boxes denote the time is unavailable.
- When you click on an available time, a pop-up will appear asking for the course name, department name, instructor name, and 2-3 areas you want to focus on, and where you are in the writing process. Enter in the required information and press "Save Appointment."
- You're done! Don't miss your appointment!
Alternatively, you can make an appointment in-person at the Writing Center located in 301 Philosophy.
How to cancel an appointment
- Navigate to The Writing Center's homepage .
- Click on "Click Here to Make An Appointment."
- Sign into the scheduler.
- Find your appointment. It should be a yellow box.
- When you click on an available time, a pop-up window will appear. Check the box labeled “Cancel this appointment;” then click the “Save changes” button below.
You may cancel up to two hours before your scheduled appointment online. If you have to cancel after that you will need to call the Writing Center directly at 212-854-3141.
