1979 in Columbia history:
- Tight Rope Walker is donated to the university
- Henry S. Coleman ends his tenure as Dean of Students
- First John Jay Awards given out
- The Columbia College Student Council comes into existence after a successful 1978 referendum. CC lacked a student government since the Student Board has been abolished in 1961.
