John W. Alexander CC '39 MPhil '73 served as acting Dean of Columbia College from 1962-1963 upon the resignation of John Gorham Palfrey and before David Truman took over. Previously, he had held other administrative posts and had been an admissions officer. He may be the only Dean of Columbia College, acting or otherwise, to have finished his graduate education after serving as dean, proving it's never too late to go back to school.

While he was a College student, Alexander was a known member of the Senior Society of Nacoms.
