1774 in Columbia history:

  • A group visits Parliament with a petition to make King's College the center of an American university along the lines of Oxford or Cambridge, encompassing all existing North American colleges. The petition is presented to Parliament, along with a draft charter. However, it is likely that the petition was rejected or ignored, since nothing of it is heard from again.
  • Isaac Abrahams is the first known Jewish student to graduate from King's College
