Franklin Foer
Franklin Foer CC '96 is the editor of The New Republic. Writer Jonathan Safran Foer is his younger brother.
While at Columbia, he studied history with Eric Foner, Barbara Fields, and Alan Brinkley and considered becoming a historian, but decided journalism was like academia without the uncertainty. Presumably, this made more sense in the 90s - Foer has been ousted from TNR 's editorship, only to be asked back later when the magazine was under new management.
