Franklin Foer CC '96 is the editor of The New Republic. Writer Jonathan Safran Foer is his younger brother. In the mid-2000s, the staff of The Blue and White named him an honorary member[1].

While at Columbia, he studied history with Eric Foner, Barbara Fields, and Alan Brinkley and considered becoming a historian, but decided journalism was like academia without the uncertainty. Presumably, this made more sense in the 90s—Foer was since ousted from TNR 's editorship, only to be asked back later when the magazine was brought under new management.
