Columbia has a diverse range of student groups, including fraternities, sororities, club sports, and student government organizations.

The six governing boards are the primary means of recognizing and organizing student groups. However, Barnard's Student Government Association also has a role, as does Columbia Athletics, which administers the varsity sports. For further details, see the article on student organizations and governance.
