The Women's Rowing Team is one of three crew teams at Columbia.

Coaches

Scott Ramsey was tabbed as Columbia's head women's rowing coach in July 2011 and enters his third season at the helm.

In 2012-13, Ramsey earned CRCA Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year honors after leading the Lions to the best season in program history. He guided the varisty eight to a EAWRC Sprints Championship win and the program's first-ever varsity eight wins at the Dunn Bowl (Brown) and Connell Cup (Yale). Columbia also achieved its highest CRCA coaches poll ranking (15th) in program history.

No stranger to Columbia Rowing, Ramsey assisted with two Columbia rowing teams from 2007-09 and returned to Morningside Heights following a two-year stint as an assistant women's rowing coach and head novice coach at the University of Iowa.

"We are delighted to have Scott lead our women's rowing program," said Murphy. "Scott is an excellent mentor who understands The Ivy League and appreciates the vision, mission and values of our athletics program. We are confident that he will be successful here at Columbia."

Ramsey has experience coaching at every level in the rowing world. He has worked with the US Rowing Women's National Team Pre-Elite Camp, collegiately at both Iowa and Columbia and also was a rowing coach at St. Joseph's Prep in Philadelphia and at the Agnes Irwin School in nearby Rosemont, Pa., where he led the varsity eight to its first Inter-Ac League Championship in 2007.

Having coached at Iowa from 2009-11, Ramsey was the recruiting coordinator for the Hawkeyes' women's rowing program while leading Iowa's novice squad. He spearheaded domestic and international recruiting efforts that yielded one of Iowa's largest incoming classes in recent years. While at Iowa, Ramsey also created a training program for the technical, physiological and mental development of walk-on and recruited student-athletes.

During his time at Columbia, Ramsey was an assistant with both the women's and heavyweight rowing programs. He selected and coached the women's varsity fours during the 2008 racing season, then assisted with the 2009 heavyweight second varsity eight during its run to the IRA National Regatta. That year, Columbia finished 12th in the nation, the highest finish for a Columbia second varsity in program history.

Ramsey graduated in 2004 from Penn, where he was a three-year varsity letterwinner for the heavyweight rowing team. During his senior season, Ramsey led the team as commodore and received the Jack McSorley Memorial Leadership and Spirit Award, along with the Keith Hopkins Award for inspirational leadership.

Libby Peters, a 2006 Columbia graduate, four-year rower and former co-captain, returned to Morningside Heights in August 2011 as the assistant coach for the women's rowing team, joining the staff of first-year head coach Scott Ramsey.

"I am thrilled to have Libby return to Columbia as an assistant coach," Ramsey said. "She will be an outstanding role model for the women on our team and she is passionate about bringing the Lions to the highest level of success in the Ivy League and the NCAA."

Peters, now entering her third season, was awarded CRCA Mid-Atlantic Region Assistant Coach of the Year in 2013 after helping the Lions' varsity eight earn win an EAWRC Sprints Championship as well as picking up varsity eight victories at the Dunn Bowl and Connell Cup.

A former United States National Team member, Peters founded and was the executive director of Philadelphia City Rowing, the first free competitive rowing program open to any public school student in Philadelphia. With Philadelphia City Rowing, Peters coached a year-round program comprised of 50 students that competed in the Philadelphia Scholastic Rowing Association. Peters also has coaching experience with the Vesper Boat Club and at the The Shipley School and The Gunnery.

As a member of the U.S. National Team, Peters was the stroke of the lightweight quad, which won a bronze medal at the 2008 World Championships. That same year, Peters helped her boat place second at the Olympic Trials. Peters has loads of international rowing experience, not only with the U.S. National Team, but also at the CRASH-b World Championships and the Canadian Henley Regatta.

While at Columbia, Peters was named the most valuable member of the varsity crew that year, serving as a co-captain. In 2009, Peters was one of 25 alumnae selected to the Columbia Women's Athletics Silver Anniversary Honor Roll.

An Academic All-Ivy League honoree, she majored in 20th century U.S. history with a minor in Middle Eastern studies. In 2010, Peters completed the Business Essentials Certificate Program at Penn's Wharton School of Business.

McKenzie Largay ‘12CC returned to Columbia to join Scott Ramsey's coaching staff in August of 2013.

Largay competed with the Lions from 2008-12, rowing with the varsity eight in her final two seasons. The Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich., native helped Columbia win the Petite Final at the EAWRC Sprints in 2011.

As a senior, Largay was slotted in the stroke seat during victories over Ivy League foes Radcliffe (Harvard), Cornell and Penn.

After earning her bachelor’s in psychology, Largay is working toward earning a master’s degree from the Mailman School of Public Heath.

ALUMNI

Samantha Warren named a first team All-American by the CRCA after helping the Columbia women’s rowing team to one of the finest seasons the program has seen.

Warren, who has been a fixture in the Lions’ varsity eight throughout her career, competed in the No. 6 seat in eight regattas this season. Her strong presence in the lineup helped Columbia to five victories, a ranking as high as No. 15 in the CRCA/USRowing Polls, a Woodbury Cup triumph and a second place finish at the EARWC Sprints.

The Sacramento, Calif. native garnered second team All-America status last year and was selected to the CRCA All-Mid Atlantic Regional Team for the third time in her career in May.

Nominated student-athletes are evaluated on the strength of their team's regional finish, coaches recommendations and 2,000-meter erg score. Nominees must be eligible student-athletes who have competed in their teams' varsity boat in 75 percent of races this season. Nikki Bourassa

Nikki Bourassa

named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Division I All Mid-Atlantic Region first team.

It marks the third consecutive all-region award for Bourassa over her three years at Columbia. It is also the first time Bourassa has been selected to the first team. A mainstay in the varsity eight boat throughout her collegiate career, Bourassa won the Under-23 Collegiate Lightweight title at the CRASH-B World Indoor Rowing Championships in February 2012.

Nominated student-athletes are evaluated on the strength of their team's regional finish, coaches recommendations and 2,000-meter erg score. Nominees must be eligible student-athletes who have competed in their teams' varsity boat in 75 percent of races this season.

BOATHOUSE

In the summer of 2001, Columbia completed construction of the 1929 Boathouse, which was built through the generous contributions of Columbia Rowing supporters. The facility, the newest in the Ivy League, is a three-bay shell house, complete with an upper level that includes an erg and weight room and a beautiful meeting area overlooking the water.

The 1929 Boathouse stands immediately next to the Gould-Remmer Boathouse, which was originally constructed in 1895 as the Gould Boathouse at 116th Street on the Hudson River. It was relocated to its current site, and in 1989, was renamed to honor the late Eugene H. Remmer ‘40CC, ‘41SEAS, a varsity oarsman and longtime supporter of Columbia Athletics.

The buildings sit at one of the most picturesque locations in New York City. They are located aside beautiful Inwood Hill Park, overlooking the confluence of the Harlem and Hudson Rivers and the famed Spuyten Duyvil.

The 1929 Boathouse is part of a larger facility, Baker Athletics Complex, which houses the Dick Savitt Tennis Center, Robert K. Kraft at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium, which is used for football and lacrosse; the Columbia Softball Complex, Columbia Field Hockey Venue; Columbia Soccer Stadium and Robertson Field at Satow Baseball Stadium. The facility provides a close, family-like atmosphere to be enjoyed by Columbia’s student-athletes.
