In late fall or early spring 2020, a dryer in the Wien laundry room caught on fire, melting its window and creating a smoke plume that contaminated areas as far away as the Wien lobby and smelled terrible. The fire also created a debris field made of a novel lint-like combusted material, which made the floor look gross. It was subsequently referred to by some as "Wienobyl" for its similarity to the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster.
