Nobel Prize

After killing lots of people with dynamite, Swedish businessman Alfred Nobel decided to give back to the world by creating the ultimate honor in all prestige-whoredom. Today, many a Nobel Prize are claimed by the faculty and alumni of Columbia.

Universities count their Nobel Prizes in various ways, normally whatever gives them the most or the highest ranking among universities. By Wikipedia's count, Columbia comes in second after the University of Cambridge.
