The Columbia University Triathlon Club is an official club sport at Columbia and was started in the fall of 2005. Triathletes are encouraged to compete in a variety of triathlons during the school year including several indoor triathlons during the winter. Most of the training is done individually but the team will usually meet early at around nine every Friday and Saturday for group runs or bike rides. The current Triathlon team president is Matt Moline.

An Ivy League champion is determined each year on the basis of team results in the annual New York City Triathlon. The lowest combined time from the top five finishers from each school count toward the Championship. The top five must include at least one man and one woman. The name of the winning school goes on the perpetual trophy that stays in New York.[1]

The Columbia Triathlon won the Ivy League Championship in 2008 and 2009. In 2009, Columbia defeated second place Cornell by nearly an entire hour.
