Hong Kong Students and Scholars Society
The Hong Kong Students and Scholar Society, HKSSS in short, is a cultural group on Columbia's campus dedicated to promoting different aspects of Hong Kong culture to both Columbia and Barnard communities as well as graduate and GS students. HKSSS also aims to educate students on the various career and academic opportunities available in Hong Kong and to unite Hong Kong students and scholars on campus at large. To accomplish these objectives, HKSSS board members host a variety of on-campus and off-campus social events. HKSSS is recognized by the Activities Board at Columbia.
Some of HKSSS' annual events include celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival, Zhongqiu jie, a Career Panel featuring students with experiences in Hong Kong and a panel with professionals in the finance business. HKSSS' signature event is an annual spring cards tournament, Big 2 Tournament, in which contestants battle through rounds of Chinese poker.
HKSSS is run by a board of around 20 members, and general body-members are encouraged to participate as well. The executive board consists of the President, VP Internal, VP External, Secretary and Treasurer. The rest of the board includes Executive Committee Members (ECMs), Publicity Chairs, Fundraising Chairs and Organizational Committee Members (OCMs). OCMs are recruited in the fall of each school year.
