I've noticed that you've been citing Wikipedia guidelines. Please note that WikiCU isn't meant to be that formal. Removing a dead link is all well and good, but something amusing like a paperweight is pretty harmless and probably not worth your time. You seem to know a lot about Sha Na Na. Would you like to create an article about them? That way we would just link to it rather than explaining who they were on every page they're mentioned.
