Jake Gyllenhaal is an actor who dropped out of Columbia College in 2000. His mother, Naomi Foner Gyllenhaal, is both a Barnard and Columbia alum, and was married to History prof Eric Foner before Jake was born.
Gyllenhaal was scheduled to graduate with the Class of 2002, and may yet return to finish his degree. He said in an interview that he would like to continue his studies in Eastern religion with professor Robert Thurman.[1] He maintains connections to the university; holding early screenings of his films here and providing free tickets to the History Department, on occasion.
His sister, Maggie Gyllenhaal, actually managed to graduate and is a College alumna. Since she isn't a dropout she probably isn't destined for fame and fortune.
